Back from holidays and some Flea Market Finds

Gosh I think I lost my blogging 'mojo' on holidays.

It seemed totally wrong to be blogging about happy holidays when there was such tragedy occurring in our home city.

After I finish wading through the 'post-camping' washing and getting the kids back off to school I am getting into some sewing for the flood victims.

Corrie from Retromummy has set up "Quilts for Queensland" which is a wonderful effort. She is one busy mother of (4) so if you can help her in any way please do.

You can make a quilt block; a whole quilt; quilt the finished products; or just donate supplies.

A handmade quilt is a special thing to give to someone who has suffered such losses.

Steph from Monpetitpoppet has organised a 'softie drive' where you can make soft toys/dolls for the children of Brisbane affected by the floods. Monkeemoomoo is also hosting a dolly drive for the kids of Brisbane. There are free downloadable dolly patterns to use if you are interested in contributing.

My ADD craft brain doesn't know where to start---quilts or dolls???

I came across this lovely barkcloth dress at an Antique shop (bit like the Woolloongabba Antique Centre set up) at Miami. 

The stall owner told me it was from the 70's and that it came from New York! 

She has a seller in New York that sends her trunks of this sort of old clothing from around America. 

I believe (or fantasise) this gorgeous dress was owned by a gorgeous 'Betty White' type who used to live in Florida. She used to wear it to afternoon drinks by the pool, sipping 'pink flamingos'.

We did a day trip to Tamborine mountain on holidays and in a cute little antique/ collectibles shop I dug around and found this mint condition single bed bedspread from the 70's. 

I am not sure what this will become yet, the creative thinking cap is on.

I hope there wasn't to many tears around Brisbane.

My three are back tomorrow, so we are last minute book shopping and book covering today.

Nothing like leaving it to the last minute.

Flea Market finds

Snuck away from the kids last week at Mon Repos with some of the girls to check out the Lifeline in Bundaberg.

Picked up this lovely linen cross-stitched number with crocheted edging.

Someone has put alot of time into this, so out of respect I had to buy it.

As a child I  watched 'Lassie'. That show had me in tears a fair bit from memory.

Found this old Lassie book and bought it thinking Ella would enjoy it.

She is an avid reader and has read alot of books (including old novels).

She read a few pages and that was it, didn't like it, which surprised me.

Oh well, it has an appealing vintage appearance.

Lastly, Ella's flea market find from a few weeks ago.

  Our neighbourhood had a council curbside pick-up.

Pickings were pretty slim, but she did manage to bring home this 'boom box'.

We found a cord that fitted and yep she works and sounds pretty good.

It conjures up an image in my head of someone skating/ rollerblading down the road with this thing on their shoulder.

Gorgeous vintage wallpaper purchased from lovely shop called 'Aurora' at Bangalow.  Mmmm, what to do with this 2 metres of goodness ????

Monday morning op shop hop

A few more 'treasures' collected this morning. 

There is an underlying kitsch travel souvenior theme (just to warn you).

Aussie linen teatowel. Apparently it is a good idea to soak these beauties in salt water before washing to help 'hold the colour'.

(4) cross stitched placemats. I have a few different things in mind for these.

As embarrassing as it is, I cannot go past these hand knitted toys. This one is in absolute mint condition. I have a strong feeling that Ned Kelly (AKA Charlie) is going to take a liking to this one.

This tablecloth is a gift for a friend who loves anything with hibiscus flowers on it.

Finally, I have added to our coathanger collection and for 50c I could not pass on these souvenior Florida coasters.

Flea Market Find

I am cheating a bit as I bought this scarf a while ago, but it has turned into one of my favourite possessions.

I love wearing scarves and since finding this one the other scarves in my wardrobe rarely see the light of day.

What makes it even more special was what the lady in the op shop said to me when I bought it.

"This belonged to my deceased mother".

I was a bit taken aback and lost for words.

I can remember thinking in my head "quick say something appropriate here".

"I really love it, I promise to take good care of it"

"Did she travel alot?"

So it all ended well. She told me a couple of nice things about her Mum.

It was nice to learn something about the person who bought my favourite scarf many years ago in Perth.
